چکیده

Background: Mirtazapine has a unique mechanism of antidepressant action, and thus is thought to have a different profile of adverse events from that of other antidepressants. Objective: To present a methodologically rigorous systematic review of the adverse event profile of mirtazapine and point to possible problems with safety reporting in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of the acute-phase treatment of major depression in adults with mirtazapine in comparison with other types of antidepressant. Methods: The Cochrane Collaboration Depression, Anxiety and Neurosis Controlled Trials Register was electronically searched using the following search terms: ‘depress*’, ‘dysthymi*’, ‘adjustment disorder*’, ‘mood disorder*’, ‘affective disorder’, ‘affective symptoms’ and ‘mirtazapine’. Pharmaceutical companies and experts in this field were contacted, and the reference lists of the relevant RCTs were checked, for additional data. No language restriction was imposed. Two authors independently assessed the quality of trials for inclusion in the review. Disagreements were resolved by consensus. Ethanol Concentration and Its Correlation with CNS Suppressor Drugs in Postmortem Subjects

Background: Many studies have been done in order to interpret correctly the results of ethanol analysis and its related problems. Unfortunately, it was not easy to determine BAC rate, due to postmortem different conditions or personal and clinical differences in metabolism and excretion of ethanol. The time between death and autopsy, the environmental conditions (temperature and humidity) are i...

Neuroprotective Drugs in Traumatic CNS Injury

Despite extensive experimental research, the numbers of neuroprotective drugs that have proven efficacy following treatment of patients with traumatic CNS injuries still remain meager. It would be worthwhile to emphasize that majority of the victims are mostly in the second or third decades of their lives. A survey on the neuroprotective molecules that has been tested experimentally and subsequ...

Lipid based nanoparticles for treatment of CNS diseases: review Article

Introduction: Central Nervous System (CNS) is one of the most important organs which is managing so many functions in human body. So, impairment of its function may results in several disorders in body, or CNS diseases, which are considered very important. CNS diseases are divided into many different groups and each group is treated with its own related medication. Some drugs that are used for ...

Central nervous system penetration for small molecule therapeutic agents does not increase in multiple sclerosis- and Alzheimer's disease-related animal models despite reported blood-brain barrier disruption.

Therapy for central nervous system (CNS) diseases requires drugs that can cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB). BBB disruption has been reported in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) and the related animal models as evidenced by increased infiltration of inflammatory cells or increased staining of Igs in the central nervous system. Although CNS penetration of ther...

Future Trends in the Pharmacogenomics of Brain Disorders and Dementia: Influence of APOE and CYP2D6 Variants

About 80% of functional genes in the human genome are expressed in the brain and over 1,200 different genes have been associated with the pathogenesis of CNS disorders and dementia. Pharmacogenetic studies of psychotropic drug response have focused on determining the relationship between variations in specific candidate genes and the positive and adverse effects of drug treatment. Approximately...

Central nervous system relapse prophylaxis in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) intrathecal chemotherapy with and without cranial irradiation

Background: Central Nervous System (CNS) relapse in acute lymphoblastic leukemia was significantly decreased due to the use of new chemotherapyeutic agents, Intrathecal chemotherapy and cranial irradiation. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of intrathecal (IT) CNS chemotherapy alone versus combination of IT chemotherapy with cranial irradiation for prevention of CNS rel...
